Generally speaking, obtaining informed consent means that a patient who agrees to undergo a treatment, health intervention or procedure does so only after being made aware of the associated benefits, risks, and alternative treatments. While there may be a degree of risk involved with any health intervention, it is up to the patient to determine if the danger associated with a treatment is acceptable.
In this 30 minute lecture, Dr Ankrah concisely speaks to the issues and educates the participant adequately on what needs to be known.
1) Identify the main forms of consent
2) Identify the appropriate application of each form of consent
3) Identify who can give consent
4) Explain How consent is given on behalf of oneself or another
5) Distinguish between consent and informed consent
